The DAR has developed educational programs and NSDAR has it’s own budget for aid to American Indians. The DAR also sponsors the American history essay contest for elementary/middle schools and the DAR Good Citizen for high schools. To be a member, a person must trace their genealogical lineage to a soldier or patriot of the American Revolution. SHARE 2. Originally founded in 1876, it helped to initiate the Domestic Science classes at Kansas State University. Historical yearbooks, articles and minutes of the club can be found at the Riley County Historical Museum. The objective of the club is to share the intellectual and social culture of domestic science and community interests. It meets monthly during the school year at various locations with programs and refreshments. The club donates books to the Manhattan Public Library in memory of deceased members and provides scholarships to worthy Kansas State University students in the College of Health and Human Services. Fairy Godmothers provides up to $800 in the form of a grant to help the dreams of area women in need come true. Additionally, a Hand Up Grant (HUG) can offer financial assistance to a local woman for a course or certification program that leads to employment or job advancement. SHARE 5.
